The importance of internal newsletters
Most companies focus their attention on communicating with existing or prospective customers, often overlooking the importance of keeping colleagues in the know, too.
One of the simplest and most effective ways to build a connected and motivated workforce is through a staff newsletter.
At one end of the scale, these can be multi-page printed publications like the ones we’ve been writing and designing for bakery giant Warburtons for many years.
Alternatively, they can be more modest digital magazines that are accessed by a simple link such as the ones we’ve recently started producing for fast-growing Edge Electrical, which provides specialist electrical installation services to the telecoms sector.
The most important thing is to make people feel informed and included, whatever the size of your organisation.
For small and large businesses, well-crafted newsletters are a great way to make everyone aware of key developments, share success and get to know their colleagues better.
This is especially important when teams aren’t all based in one place or people are spending time out on the road. Also, with many still working from home, it’s all too easy for people to feel disconnected.
As well as sharing company updates, the most engaging newsletters also include personal stories – team achievements, new starters, milestones or even hobbies and interests. This blend of professional and personal content helps humanise the workplace and strengthens relationships across teams.
At RMS, we are big advocates of staff newsletters and produce them for clients of all sizes and from widely differing sectors.
Done well, newsletters do more than simply share information – they help people feel part of something bigger.
If your organisation would benefit from improved internal communications, we’d love to help.
